Lecce’s little white tourist train is the easiest way to see the Baroque old town without tiring your feet. Since October 2024, two zero-emission electric trains have run the service under a city concession, operated by Multivision. Here is what we know about where it starts, the route, the timetable and tickets. If you’d rather explore on foot, see our Lecce walking tour.

At a glance

  • Start and finish: Piazza del Duomo, every ride

  • Ride time: up to about 50 minutes
  • Tickets: bought on board, €10 for adults, kids ride free
  • Hop-on, hop-off: yes
  • Season: from the Friday before Palm Sunday to November 5, and December 20 to January 6

Where the train starts

It always starts and finishes at Piazza del Duomo; the route in between varies. Head to the square in the heart of the old town to board.

The route

It always starts and finishes at Piazza del Duomo. Between the Duomo and Porta Napoli the route varies: sometimes the train runs through the old town, and sometimes it goes out via Porta Rudiae and along the outside of the walls. From Porta Napoli it follows the boulevards outside the walls past the Villa Comunale, then turns back into the old town through Piazzetta Santa Chiara and up to Piazza Sant’Oronzo. Right now the train takes a detour on part of the route while that section is converted into a pedestrian-only street, so the exact path may differ. We’d love it to spend a little more time in the old town, but on a rainy or blazing-hot day, a shaded seat and a breezy loop of the city is hard to beat. The ride takes up to about 50 minutes, and you can hop on and off along the way.

Our tips

  • Save it for a rainy or blazing-hot day. We’d love it to spend a little more time in the old town, but on a rainy or blazing-hot day, a shaded seat and a breezy loop of the city is hard to beat.
  • Board at Piazza del Duomo. It’s the start of the line, so you’re more likely to find a seat than at a stop along the way.
  • In July and August, ride in the evening. The train runs until 11 p.m., and the stone glows after dark.
  • Use the train for an overview, then walk. Our seven-stop walking tour covers the same landmarks at your own pace.
  • Check the time of the last departure before you set out. It changes with the season.
  • Seating is four to a row, so it gets tight when the train is busy. Board at Piazza del Duomo or ride early or late in the day for more room.
